I walked in at 6:13 to renew my license. There was NO ONE on line. I walked out with a new license at 6:30. 17 minutes, from walking in the door, filling out the paperwork, and seeing 2 different women to check my things, taking the picture and walking out with 2 new licenses in hand. Oh, and I had no idea all they needed was my health insurance card, soon to be expired license & debit card. Not the raised birth certificate or social security card I brought. Oh, forgot to mention, I also handed plates in. Got a lot done in 17 minutes. And everyone was super nice. Kinda felt like the Twilight Zone.
Compared to my previous DMV that I dealt with in Baltimore, this place is an absolute dream. If you come prepared with the proper ID and documentation, things seem to go smoothly. This location is smaller and can get a little stressed out during the last and first weeks of the month when there are longer lines of people in a panic to renew their about-to-expire or recently-expired licenses and registrations. Also, no driver road tests given here.
I'm from Union County but I have started to come here after recommendations. They are so quick and efficient. It is worth the drive. You will be good to go as long as you come prepared. Going to the DMV is not fun, but the Hazlet DMV employees are mostly friendly and helpful. They sympathized with a difficult situation where other DMVs were completely nasty to us.
The wife and I relocated to NJ and went to Rahway DMV on Saturday. The line ran out the door and around the building! We're sent to Hazlet as alternative. What a difference! The folks there were relatively pleasant (I mean who wants to work on a Saturday?) and everyone was easy to work with. Got our NJ licenses, our plates and transferred titles in less than an hour! Avoid all others and take a drive out to Hazlet DMV. You won't regret it.
